hi guys im a new owner of a 280e avantgarde merc and its a lovely car,but ive noticed when it changes up in the first lower gear its very slightly jerky not vicuos but just slightly jerky,i was wondering if it needed a gearbox oil change, and gearbox oil filter,is this something which can be done at home, also what parts would i need and what oil should i put in it,the cars mileage is 92,000 it does have a very comprehensive history,by the way its a 1998 model, the only reason i noticed the slightly jerky gearchange is my missus has got a 220cdi and you cant notice the gearchange on that,
sorry for all the questions but i thought i would ask people that are in the know.it is an autobox by the way

cheers simon

Hello Simon, the gearbox fluid and filter should be changed at around 40k miles and its doubtful that its ever been done.

A 1998 car should have a dip stick. that will also mean the it has a torque converter drain plug.

Take a look under the bonnet and see if it has a dip stick towards the rear of the engine left hand side when standing at the front
