Hi..

I switched my c200k w202. to winter mode on autobox...as it was slippy.
And had a strange experience couple of days later..

I went into a roundabout, drove round it but when i put foot down on exit, the throttle didn't work!!

Luckily there was a layby just after the R/bout..so i pulled in & the car sat in drive with revs at 1500 & no throttle response.

I swtched it off & back into summer & everything worked ok again & no probs since..

Any ideas?

Did you press the button to change modes while the car was in drive/moving?

If so that could of caused it too go a bit loopy!!

It does state in the manual that you should only swith between gearbox modes while the car is stationery and in neutral or park.

Not sure what else it could be, if you say it is all working again fine now.

The mode of the gearbox should not have any effect on gearchanges. "s" mode is "standard" - not sport, "w" mode is for poor winter conditions. In w mode, it pulls away in 2nd gear & changes reverse gear ratio - that's it. It does not programme the box to change at different RPM or faster/slower gearchanges so your problem must be something else. Have the fault memories read for safetys sake as the revs were high.

The manual for my W210 states that "W Winter. The car pulls away forwards and backwards in second gear.
When the throttle is open, gear shifts, both up and down, can occur at lower road and engine speeds than when the programme selector switch is in the S driving program."

That to me means that in W mode the gears chage up at lower revs than in S mode.

Didn't switch it when driving...it had been switched for bout 24 hrs.
Haven't tried it since.
Car was wheelspinning when pulling away in first.
Think i will have to take throttle body apart & clean as have noticed if i hold it in drive a T-junctions for more than 30secs it misses quite badly before it picks up revs...so i always knock it into Neutral.
