General ECU Question

Hi,

Just a hypothetical question.

If I had a faulty ECU could I go to a breakers yeard and get an ECU from another CLK230 and fit it to my own car and expect it to work right away, or is each ECU a 'tailor fit' to each individual car?

no each ecu is coded to each car, not saying it wouldnt work but when fitting a ecu you have to go into start up and tell the ecu what the car is, has etc etc

Dont know if this may be of help to you. I was surfing the web looking for MAF sensor suppliers and I found this (its german but I've run it through the google translator):

It seems they repair ECUs and offer a 2 year warranty on the repair.
Dont know how much they charge but I'm assuming it will be cheaper than MB. Hope this helps if you have a faulty ECU.

As you say there are loads of repaieres out there. BBA-Reman is one but just google the term and you'll be spoilt for choice. I'd do this in preference to a scrapper unit personally as at least you know what you're getting. A scrapper one could easily have a fault and will need to be recoded. Yours will just slot back in.

There are loads of ECU,s in some cars, some will and some as said need coding setting up
