Strikes me that:
If you're in favour of Brexit at any cost vote Tory or UKIP.
If you're in favour of Brexit but not at any cost vote Labour.
If you're not in favour of Brexit vote Lib Dems.

Of course it's all a bit more complex than that due to perception of fitness of actually do more than determine the way Brexit is implemented...

Just been reading the leaked Labour manifesto.

It highlights the difficulty in choosing who to vote for.

I actually agree with nationalising utilities and transportation.

It's like dyed-in-the-wool Labour voters now considering voting Conservative to ensure Brexit.

Guy, the issue isn't the nationalisation of those industries. In and of itself it isn't a bad idea necessarily.

The issue is how the nationalisation is paid for... and if there's one thing that this manifesto has highlighted, its that its' sums aren't too hot!!

Well as we will be a socialist state we will all have to chip in, the railways is simple as you just wait for the franchises to come up for renewal you just take them back.

Power is difficult as the cost of buying the shares will be collosal

Once the franchises come up for renewal you take them back, but what do you buy the rolling stock to operate them with? That's privately owned. What about the signals, who will operate that? Who paid for the existing signals infra and how will it be bought out to be taken over? Repair crews? Renewal of rolling stock? Repair gear... all of that is privately owned Will it be subcontracted?

That's my point, the rail franchises might devolve to the government but that will be it. There would be bare lines with nothing running on them and no way to allow it to run.

Not without spending a metric f***ton of cash anyway.

I think the rail infrastructure (signals and tracks) are still (nominally) government owned under Network Rail (formerly RailTrack). They certainly aren't owned by Virgin et al.

Doesn't matter, Jeremy has said they will do it and Diane Abbot has done the maths so it will be fine, nothing to worry about, all thought out and costed properly

Might need to be corrected on this as I've not worked on rail projects for a decade, but it's nowhere near that simple.

Signals (lights, signs) and tracks are under Network Rail.

Signals transmission gear and the lines for them are subcontracted by area.

Signals inputs (control rooms by sector) are subcontracted by operators for that area.

Don't forget the Trade Unions will be in charge so no worries, they will deal with the transfer of power and the new MD will be on £20 a year

How will they pay for it? Simple - print more money! ;)

Jeremy has his priorities right. He has clearly been reading "The Results of the First Five-Year Plan", it would definitely cure my insomnia

If he could process the reason behind the fall of the USSR and plot that against his own manifesto, it might keep him up at night.

If.

Ok, so you take back ownership of the railways and repeal all recent union laws and scrap the pay freeze in the public sector (as in the manifesto). What do you think the first thing the drivers, guards, platform staff, maintenance staff etc. are going to do?

"Brilliant" panning and an example of why these idiots should not be taken seriously!

That's Abbott level maths there..... it is actually well OVER twice what the policemen (errrrr and policewomen) will be on. In fact it is exactly 2.5 times the amount.
