is it possible/ does it matter/ do you need the fuses in the fuse box to start a car? (besides any fuses for the plugs & starter?)

i know it sounds obserd but, im pretty sure there is some major short somewhere where the power is draining and since its sitting in a parking lot where its freezing cold, im looking for a quick fix)

-just any thoughts would be appreciated, thanks

If the power is being drained from the battery while the car is left overnight or longer periods , it could be the starter moter that is draining the power . I dont know about mercs but to check if the alternator is working ok is to disconnect the battery while the engine is running . (Works on most cars) . If alternater is faulty , the engine will die , If alt. is ok the engine keeps running . If you try the alt. and engine runs still , then i suspect its the starter . Some auto electrical repair workshops may test the power for you either for free or a drink .

i'd disconnect the earth strap on the battery - put an ammeter in there in series and see how much current is being drained.

THEN i'd pull fuses one by one until i saw a change in current. that then identifies the circuit still draining power...

just my tuppence ;)
