I'm a comparatively new to MB ownership but why is the C Class a noisy car to drive. I have previously owned 3 Audis all of which were a quiet drive.  Surely MB could have designed out road/wind noise like Audi and BMW.
Is there anything I can do to 'quieten' my C250 other than upgrade to E Class? Any help would be helpful and appreciated.

Hi Phil

C class's as far as my experience do not suffer unduly with wind noises. Some of the 4cyl petrol engines are a little raspy. If the wind noise is as bad as you say. Get it checked out.  This is not usual.

PS. Try not to use the "A" or "B" word around here pretty please!!!! heh heh

My 250TD isn't exactly quiet, but wind noise has never been a problem.  Apart from the occasional "marine diesel" throb under acceleration (which I quite like), it can produce annoying levels of tyre roar(?) on all but the smoothest roads.

I understand this has always been an issue with the C-Class, albeit a very minor one, and the symptoms vary considerably depending on make/type of tyres fitted.

Our car is Pirelli shod, possibly P6000s, so if anyone can recommend a quieter alternative with similar performance........

Between my father and i we ahve had 4 W202 c class cars. The wind noise is not somthing we ahve noticed . On a recent trip to Germany in my c240  sitting on the autobahns at 100+ mph , there was never more than a hint of wind noise and the only thing was a little tire rumble ( as they are mostly horrible concrete roads ) all the way from the north to switzerland and back ( stopping off at the shrine for a look on the way ) . Dad has a c220 Cdi and although it is a little noisier at cold than mine when warm the most intruding noise is the turbo whine , which is a nice noise ..  have you listened round the doors to the seals ? has the car been in an accident and not properly repaired , as in the doors being out of allignment ? .. just some suggestions..

Thanks to those that responded to my queery.

I now conclude that the noise I hear is tyre roar.

I suppose this forum has been through it all before but can anyone recommend "quiet" tyres?

Info I have gleaned from other sites suggest/recommend Premium tyres Michelin, pirelli etc.
I had Continental on my C & they were really noisy.I now have Goodyear which are not perfect but acceptable.
Local CC are progressively introducing "New" modern
road surface which is embarassingly silent!

Ernest

That silent tarmac is excellent, we are having it installed all around where i live at the moment, its great when you hit a patch of it, trouble is though, you can then here all the other rattles and squeaks that are usually drowned out by the road noise!
