Hi Simon, there a a few possible faults which could cause your symptoms. Firstly low oil level which requires a workshop dip stick to check. Or there is a posibility of a speed sensor fault with the conductor plate within the gearbox.

Neither should be very expensive to fix, the electrics kit will be more however.

220cdi gearbox

hi simon
i had the same fault on my 02 c220cdi auto it was the plug in the boot under the black plastic panal at the back of the boot, the plug takes both rear speed/abs/esp sensors from under the car through the boot floor and on to the wiring loom, they are pluged in from under the car and get a dry joint. you could unplug them and clean them, but be carefull they are very small pins. good luck.

It does sound like a gerbox speed sensor issue.

Plug it in to a Star to see.

Simon
Have a look at my post about 20 lower down than yours.
I live nr WM and took my car to Gravesend. They had all the teting gear!
Your prob could be the same as I have on my C270. Just hope it is not the water in gearbox prob - you can read all about that it on this forum.
Good luck

You must plug it into STAR and the fault does not sound serious

If it was then yes we have a list of very good people that can fix them

thanks guys,i drove it for the fisrst time today as its the mrs car and its not how she desribed it (bless her) it wont rev past 2000 rpm its changing gear very smooth albeit a bit slow because the rev is so low,do you think it could be the airflow meter,i have got it booked in to an independant on monday,i must say its really bugging me.

cheers simon
