GOT A 190E someone keyed the other day!, going through insurance was not worth it, so I did it myslef and sprayed it with touch up paint and I was susprised that being metallic paint the difference in colour and tone is hardly noticeable, BUT I cannot get the same sheen as the original bodywork, I used several coats of acrylic laquer and the polished it up with a lambsool electic gizmo with a good polish but no joy, is there anything I am missing or should I just live with it....appreciate any tips on this non-mechanical matter

Sounds like the humidity was too high for spraying.

Try raising the garage temperature above 15 degrees far a few hours before doing it again.

Or wait till spring :)

if the cars a metallic finish you'll never get a perfect finish on it with cans , unfortuanatly because of the way metallic paints work they never look quite right unless you get the whole panel done , try rubbing down the offending area with some 600-800 wet and dry just so its matted the paint then clear laquer over the top feathering it in the clear laquer might help all metallic finishes need clear laquer to get that shiny result .
make sure its a warm dry day or use a heater in a garage , i often leave the spray cans in the airing cuboard over night to help the paint spray more finely.

Thanks for that....so the jist of it is that I should try more clear laquer to get the high gloss shine? or is it because the paint underneath is too matt? or both?basically the bodywork elsewhere is relective as a mirror, so will spraying layers of new laqcuer on top of that matt finish work ? sorry for the sily question but any furhter help would be appreciated.....
