Hi- new here. Just asking for advice. I took my GLA (2016) to a Mercedes approved garage for MOT. All was good. Dropped off and got a message to say it had passed. When I went to pick it up from service area- the seat had been moved back. I am very short so went to move it forward using the door controller. Nothing- no power to the seat. As I had t moved the car- I back in the garage and they took car back in. I’ve been told that it’s absolutely nothing that they have done whilst it’s been in for an MOT. I am being quoted over £400 for fixing it. In my opinion I’ve taken a fully working car in for an MOT and it’s come back broken. Mercedes will not offer any good will and the dealership is offering minimum help to me. Is anyone knowledgable about these issues. Must admit I’m really cross- as I can’t see why it should be my cost to repair. Thank you.

Hi and welcome. The MOT includes making sure the driver seat adjustment back & forth works, hence it sometimes comes back to the owner in a different position. It's very unfortunate that it seems now to have stopped working and in that state it wouldn't pass another MOT. I wonder if it's just a fuse that's popped? Worth checking. Perhaps an assertive but polite convo with the service manager might help with a resolution. Good luck.

When you say 'Mercedes Approved' what exactly do you mean by that please? Do they do free warranty work?

Sadly you have taken in a car where the next time the seat was moved it would fail. Hard fact is this is not the MOT garage at fault so be grateful for any small contribution or help they might offer and don’t wind them up with any accusations they caused this.

cars always went wrong, and in today's world they go wrong far more often - usually with strange electrical gremlins that really only make sense to the engineer tasked with building that fault in to every one they make. So it will happen and when is never going to be convenient

the sad knock on from that is you can't trust anyone to give you back your car without potental negative intervention... someone's seat module died - was it yours, the tech's girlfriends or his mate we will never know...

has the car seat also heating, does that work, guess its on the same fuse.
Get on your knees and check the electric plug has not popped out under the seat while they moved it back.
