The Engine Management Light is causing issues. The car was taken into my usual Mercedes dealer who advised it was related to an engine temperature sensor although a cold start would be needed to determine properly. They turned the warning light off and advised me to monitor. The light promptly came back on. So they did a cold start check and I was informed that the cause was related to the’ charge air distribution‘ this needed to be stripped and investigated. This was done and result, a new temperature sensor and seals fitted, all costing £600+ Less than 5 weeks later the light is back on! I am now told that the ‘coolant thermostat’ needs to be replaced! I do not see how these are connected and why this was not originally found by diagnostics etc? My understanding of this Light is that it relates to the Engine emissions system. I am concerned by competence here and/or being taken for a ride! Can anyone advise please. Also, are there no independent Mercedes Garages in Scotland? Thank you.

Its unlikely that an error of 5 weeks ago once reapired, suddenly triggers the same fault 5 weeks later. the computers are on all the time.

Why would they have changed the stat last time if that was showing no fault. A failed stat could mean engine running cool which uses more fuel - hence EML.

Have you tried anothet dealer for a second opinion.

Mercedes stats are not the best.

Thanks, I have noticed that the Temp gauge does move up and down, just below 80oC and up to normal running Temp and back sometimes. Seems to drive fine. I have just seen an Independent Garage advertising in Perth, Alastair Reid. May try them? I live just outside of Arbroath. Not encouraging about Mercedes dealers!

In Aberdeen you have Bavaria Autowerk.

closer to you i believe you have Sandemans in Forfar one of the other forums mentioned that they have lots of experience with MB and access to STAR, worth a phone call if nothing else.
