Just purchased a 2017 GLE 250d Premium with 28k miles. Delighted with the car, other than the actual MPG being nowhere near the published figures. Traveled from London yesterday at a constant 70mph alone in unladen car and only managed 40mpg. Any advice please - is this typical of the experience of others, or could I have a problem with my newly acquired car?

Hello and welcome

I expect the software will have been updated that fixes some emissions issues but appears to reduce the fuel economy. It also has a tendency to kill nox sensors and ad blue pumps. Quite common on the forum.

Welcome have you checked the consumption full tank to full tank? Normally the display MPG is quite accurate.
I get 50mpg on a run in my E350CDI, & 60mpg in the wife's SLC250d.
Is that a 9 speed? The wife's SLC is 9 speed but it needs a very light throttle at 70mph to stay in 9th. It prefers 75 mph.

I’ve done two lots of manual calculation to work out mpg and both come out the same 39.9 mpg. You’re right about the top gear - slips in and out of 9th between 70 and 75mph. Any suggestions as to how to resolve this problem?

Hello Michael and welcome. For quite a big and heavy car with the aerodynamics of a garden shed, 40mpg may not be that bad. Are the tyre pressures correct?

As Srdl said the aerodynamics are not good on your car. Check tyre pressures & make sure the brakes are not binding.
There was a software update about a year ago emission related, before that the SLC would happily run in 9th at 70 Mph.
Might be worth a run at 60mph & see what the difference is? if there is a big change then it’s definitely down to the aerodynamics.
