Glow plug relay

hi all

Got a problem with my c220d

I switch the ignition on from cold and the glow plug light doesn`t come on i start the engine and it runs rough for a few minutes and i drive away after about 5 minutes the glow plug light comes on and stays on for about 3 minutes :?
I have done a few searches on this site and another one and the consensus is a faulty glow plug but if the light is not coming initially then is it the relay.
has anyone out there had the same prob if so can you help.

Had the exact same problem with my 190 but Mercedes seem to have designed the relay this way so that the light comes on after you start the car and stays on for about 30sec to let you know there is a fault its definitely a glow plug or two, wouldn't think it was the relay

Doesn`t make sense that merc would disable the full glow plug system just to tell you that one plug was malfunctioning maybe im missing something here is it a safety feature? cheers
