Just thought I'd post this pic and information.
Basically, the glowplug in the pic is a faulty one that came out of my cylinder head. You can see the amount of carbonisation around the shaft, its that muck that makes the beggars so difficult to remove on occasion. The thread is actually ok, its just the muck on the shaft that stops them coming out.
The other half of the pic is the control unit on the nearside of the engine bay, near the battery terminal. You can see that 3 of the links are open circuit (the 3 on the other side were fine).
Now the garage that did the work, although I did say "do what must be done" (though I didn't sound like Emporer Palpatine I must add) changed this unit without really asking. Thats fine, although it cost about £60 for a new one, but all that needs doing here is those 3 links need repairing. Its a simple case of measuring the current that runs through the link, and reconnecting them with fusewire appropriate for the circuit.
So, if anybody wants/needs one of these little boxes, even if its to pull apart and use the undamaged links on the other side to repair their own, please feel free to contact me and I'll send it to you for a tenner inc P&P, otherwise it will be headed for the bin.
