On a cold morning my C250D starts but runs lumpy for about 5 secs or so,classic glowplug failure.Yet 2 garages one a merc specialist say plugs tested A OK.Could it be that crud has built up on 1 or more tips thus impairing performance? Is there a diesel additive that might clean the plugs in situ,Or is there another explanation?Lee.

You could always remove your fuel filter, empty it, and fill it back up with diesel injector cleaner, available from Halfords etc.
Could also be a bit of air in the fuel lines.
