I put some nice chrome valve caps on my car but they disappeared within a week. I replaced them with 'secure' valve caps and, 'touch wood', they haven't gone missing.

So far my 'standard chrome' bonnet badge hasn't gone AWOL. But a gold-coloured (plated, solid, etc.) badge is so unusual that it will invite the wrong kind of attention and it will disapper without trace very quickly.

I have seen a gold-coloured grill badge on a black, Cosworth-engineered 190 with matching gold wheels and sporting a great big pram-handle aerofoil and that looks quite nice when polished. [ Can a grill badge be detached?} No matter! IMO a gold bonnet badge would soon become a trophy adorning the neck of some weido. I agree, don't do it!
