Hi

I just thought I would post a quick story of my experience of getting my rust sorted!

I have a 2001 E320 CDI, now with 230K on it.
Attached are a couple of photos of before....

Now, took it to MB Harrogate to get some electric problems sorted, and asked them to check the Rust with regards to the warranty whilst I was there (not been for 3+ years!) It happend to be a wednesday, when they have Richard there from Alton Cars in Leeds - who do all of their Rust work for them!.
Richard took loads of photos, and gave 'good vibes' that it would be sorted.
The next day, I got a call from Richard to confirm my service history etc, and a call later on to ask when I wanted it to be sorted...

End Result, I had the following sorted under the warranty:-

The fixes done were:-

- New Bonnet
- New OSF Wing
- New NSF Wing
- All 4 doors repaired
- both back wings repaired
- boot repaired

So, to finish things off, I also had the following done (£650):-
- new front Bumper
- roof repaired
- Bump in back wing repaired
- wheels revamped
- new number plates

So I now have a car that looks like new, just with 230K on it!

The only down-side was that the inside had an unreasonable amount of 'overspray' that I need to clean

I hope other people get good experiences of this too

Cheers
Peter

Nice :)

There will undoubtedly be bits of rust around the engine bay, you can sort those yourself easily with a tin of rust treatment, and a tin of silver por15 :)

Did they check the front spring perches for rust?

I didn't see them check, but on closer inspection just now, look OK...

Glad you got everything sorted on your car, the dealer seems to have been very helpful. There are some 210s that look really badly effected by the rust & others don’t. A friend of a friend has a 2002, E220cdi & it has had the same problems as yours, again the dealer did the work FOC. I have the same year & model as yours & seems to be rust free. I think the 2 front doors have had treatment before as the dealer had some history of a body shop visit. The roof has a few tiny speckles of rust that probably have been stone chips not treated as the previous owner seemed to have neglected the car in some ways, but that seems to be all.
I am interested in the 230k miles you have done, have you had much or any mechanical trouble with the car, any engine problems?. Mine has 165k on it & seems to be still healthy enough, ( fingers crossed). Only things I have fitted were a MAF sensor, thermostat & glow plugs.
I have spoken to a few taxi owners with 320cdi,s & fairly high mileages, & they have not had any serious trouble. Will be interesting to see how reliable the CDIs are in comparison to the older diesels.

Hi Peter - although it was under warranty, do you know the invoice amount for all the work up to 'boot repaired?', ie the first part? It's almost exactly the same as the list of work I'm seriously considering paying for myself - madness I know, but HEY......

Basically, it's been a fairly reliable motor...
- When I was doing very high mileage - service every 25,000 miles
- New bushes on the front suspension (cannot remember which ones, but £14 each) about every 70K
- Aircon Fan Motor
- 3x New injectors (front one twice and the 2nd one)
- New Headlight Bulb (only stated as it was £100 + fitting! - Xenon)

Mostly it, except for the most important one (i.e. now) - just off the road til Wednesday for a suspected Gear Selector...

I don't see what I could replace it with...
(and no money to either!)
Cheers

Your car has been very good I would say, very few problems considering the 230k it has done.It gives me a bit more piece of mind with mine to hear your car has been so reliable.I would keep the car, mechanicaly it may do many more miles yet & you have the bodywork sorted, why change it. Have you spoken to anyone else with a CDI that have high mileages on there cars. Anyone had any serious problems with them.
Where are you from in North Yorkshire,I am 25miles north of Newcastle, small town called Amble
