My name is Michael, it's a pleasure to meet you all!

I spend most of my life on the motorway as a contractor, currently chugging along in a W176 A180D (I know I know, not a true Benz:p) with 86k miles put on it since mid-June 2020.

Massive fan of the W126 SEC, W211, and the CLK GTR. I grew up around my grandad's 190E and uncle's W639 Vito... Strange match, I know, but it got me and my cousin hooked! He's currently an owner of a straight-six W140.

My very first car was a very neglected BMW E46 320 Ci which I thoroughly enjoyed working on and fixing up, it's through the BM that I learnt my ways around the engine.

I'm into anything with an engine, from a 300SL to a STIHL chainsaw - it's all great fun.

Anyway, back into my man cave, find some other car to obsess over...

We had an A class hire car, recently very nice car, roomy and smooth and looked good too. Not sure why it isn't a proper Mercedes ?

Welcome by the way.

Hi and welcome.
Old MBs are the best. Built to a standard, not to a price.

Hello and welcome

Funny how being brought up around certain cars rubs off on us when we get older (and wiser :D)
I grew up around pictures of American cars my Uncle used to cut out of the National Geographic Magazine's although we were mainly British and Australians car in NZ back then and no family member had a big tank. However I have only owned 10? USA cars but can remember the Mercedes Benz from the early 60's which also had fins!!!..........And the rest is history. What did turn me was a drive in a 3 year old 450SEL 6.9 and I was completely hooked

What Blobcat said there, the A180D is powered by an OM 607 which is a Renault K-type adapted by Mercedes for their entry A & B classes. The same engine can be found on a few Nissan and Renault cars. The car most certainly looks and feels like a modern Benz from the inside, it's just the engine that excludes it from being seen as a "true Mercedes". In no way does that make it a bad car though:)

Absolutely, unfortunately not all of us get the "wiser" part...:p

I am very jealous to hear of the 450SEL drive, that must of been an experience! Cutting out car pictures out of magazines was an absolute childhood classic! I recently grew very fond of the American muscle, not many cars have the growl that the American V8's can produce. There is a dealership called "Retro Classic Car" based in Swainby, just outside Middlesbrough, that specializes in a lot of the American muscle cars - they run a YouTube channel where they take each classic that comes by their dealership for a spin on country lanes, take a look, the link to their channel is here

I was so impressed with this 450 SEL that I went and bought one but didn't think it went as fast, I did discover later that the one I drove was the 6.9  I had about 3 or 4 w116's including a 280se. I do have a passion for Mercedes.
I have had a 68 Oldsmobile with a 440 in it with 2 4bbl on a high-rise manifold, it was awesome but stupid, you couldn't get traction around the streets, I think my Triumph 2500 was quicker
Thanks for the link.

Thanks for the link.
I had a road accident with one in Bavaria on snow in about 1968. I was driving an army HGV, & the road wasn't wide enough for the two of us.
The 6.9 had the four headlight system.
