Hi everyone, I'm new to the site and looking for the magic spell to unlock a 2002 ML270CDi please?
My brother gave me the car for when my Disco 2 finally gives up the ghost which will be very shortly. I've had it sat on my drive and have been starting it and running the engine for half an hour periodically. With one thing and another I haven't had chance to do so for 4-5 weeks and now the battery is dead. The manual key will not turn in the drivers door lock now either (it has been doing) not one way or the other. Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hello and welcome,

Plenty of lubricant in the lock and work the key back and forth. Do the same for the keyhole in the rear door

Hi Blobcat, thank you.
I've given the drivers door a little go at this but kinda give up as I'd thought I was barking up the wrong tree. I'll persevere again with it.
I'm going to sound stupid now, but I had a look to try and locate the tailgate key lock and can't seem to find one.

There should be one up by the handle. Can’t remember the layout on the ML but you might need to get down and look.

The key ways turn 90’ so work them until they do and then keep them lubbed for if and when your need them in the future

As Blobcat said,a squirt of WD40 or similar "wiggle" and it should free up, you may have to be a little more forceful than you feel comfortable with. There is no key hole on the tailgate, it has a manual latch inside the car which will overide the lock.
