Good service from dealer

Just have to post what good service I received from Mercedes Benz of Swindon yesterday. I had bought all the components necessary to fit a fire extinguisher to my 04 CLK270 for driving in Europe and intended to install it myself. However, I soon realised that the job was more complex than I thought. I appealed to the dealership for guidance and they told me to come in so that they could look at the problem. 45 minutes later, I left the dealer with the extinguisher fitted and nothing charged to me. It's just nice to say on this forum that I have received good service.

Was it an MB owned dealer or franchised?

I rate MB's customer service as the worst I have ever had from a vehicle manufacturer/dealer. BMW skins them across the board.

MB of Swindon is franchised to the Sytner Group. As a matter of interest, my wife drives a BMW and I find their dealership appalling. Give me MB any day!

Then it all makes sense. My wife also drives a BMW and gets great service from her local dealer, which is of course Sytner.

So it's Sytner who is good and MB, who runs our local dealership and service centre itself, who is poor.

Who runs your Beemer dealership?

We bought our Mercedes from the Swindon Dealership too and were very impressed with the service we received. We had a lot of follow up calls afterwards from the salesman to make sure we were happy with our purchase.

Also comparing prices in Swindon to our local Dealership in Watford, they did seem to be cheaper too and also gave us a lot more trade in on our old car. Overall I would recommend them highly, especially Justin Doughty the salesman we had :-D

MB Newbury

I realise this is quite an old thread, but I just took mine to MB Newbury, also Sytner, for a couple of niggles and I was pleasantly surprised :-o .

The chap I saw was friendly, knowledgeable and when I collected it, everything was done which I asked.

I had heard some dreadful stories about them, but so far, they haven't upset me!

I'd be interested about MB Newbury too. Although I live in West Sussex I work in Hungerford. I've only been to see them once (after some numpty rear-ended me on the way to work) and found them to be very helpful - unlike Tony Perslow in Guildford who are proving about as useful as a chocolate fire guard. The were supposed to phone me back today about the parts for my fuel contamination problem and still not a dicky bird.

I will try Syntner in Newbury for my next service and let you know how I get on

The slk was back in again last week for new indicator stalk, car indicating left by itself, roof/boot seal (small leak still) and new fan for heater as was making a racket when up high(this cold weather and roof down combination)
I asked my wife about replacing the car in the future "would you get another?" and she said definately although it has had probably more than its fair share of faults the service at the Dealers in Glasgow has been exemplary.
They have twice now on very short notice sourced us a car to use while ours has been in and also arrange taxis to and from work for my wife when neccesary.
We do slate the dealers on here a bit and the build quality but every time the car has had to go in the dealer has been great.(might have something to do with the 18ry old malt I gave the service manager for getting us in quick the first time it was in though)!!

I don't know how many staff they have working on the front line, but the chap I saw was called David Elphick, if that's of any help.

And the receptionist was rather nice ;)

I work in Hungerford too, BTW.

MB of Chelmsford

Although the "stealers" get lots of bad press on these pages I must say that I have found MB of Chelmsford to be as helpful as they are able given the constraints they have to work under. Have had a few issues with my E430 and they have always been prepared to help a "diyer", to the extent that I located the dodgy HT lead, replaced it and now by car is as good as new! With their new 20% off card they are also competitive with our local 2nd tier outfit.
