Good trustworthy garage in Kent

Anyone had to take their pride and joy Merc to a non franchised garage in Kent? Around Maidstone/Sittingbourne/Chatham ?

Need some major work doing, C240 is starting to drink oil after only 65000 miles! Looks to be piston rings - take engine apart and re-build. Cannot afford dealer.

Any help greatly appreciated!

With my previous C250 Elegance, I took it to Rawsons of Tonbridge, who were not only cheaper, but whose service was impeccable.

There are branches of Malaya (a service location almost next door) but I didn't find them as helpful.

The extra drive down to Tonbridge has always been worthwhile, as they have always, without fail returned the car on time, budget and immaculately clean.

You could try Ken at Linden Automotive in Headcorn 01622 892222. Once my SL500 came out of warranty I have had it serviced there and he is excellent.
He is Aston Martin/Jaguar trained and works on various Mercs, BM's as well.
I would thouroughly recommend him .

The intermediate service he did on my SL which included, Oil (Shell Helix), Filter, Set of Plugs, Forte Fuel Treatment, Lubes, Grease, Screen Wash and Battery Top Up. He also checked air filter which was fine. Total cost was £167. Once he had finished the engine wouldn't turn over so he whipped off the starter motor and found it was devoid of grease, in fact completely dry. He cleaned it up, regreased it and put it back on and it started fine. No charge for that bit!!!!
He also provided a full report on other bits like I have a bit of corrosion on the auto box pipe and a slight leak from the engine pressure switch. A very comprehensive job.
Incidentally I asked him to quote on a major service and cambelt change on my sons 206. Peugeot dealer quoted £500 for the 2 jobs and Ken has quoted less than £200. Guess where the 206 is going?
