Just done the deal to trade in my w163 2004 ML 270cdi inspiration for a facelifted Black w211 E280cdi 3 litre V6 deisel with black leather.
Will be able to pick it up when my retention papers and V5 come back from dvla.
slight problem is the dealership is in Winchester and i am in Glasgow. Salesman is going to find out the cost to transport it up but failing that it will be a 16 hour 800 miles round trip though i could think of worse motors to do it in !!!!!
For some reason car prices in Scotland are always way more expensive than down south so i have purchased most of my cars in this way as the savings run into thousands.
I had a w210 E200 so im looking forward again to the unrivalled comfort of an e-class and i cant wait to look down the bonnet at the target again.

E-class is a 56 plate with 19k on the clock selling at £17980. Wanted the facelifted model as hopefully as it is the last w211s should be bullit proof, Had to be a V6 7 speed auto as the fuel economy is nearly on a par with the 220 and took a while to get the colour i wanted and with real leather as some dealerships had a habbit of trying to pass the dummy leather of as real leather until they were asked for a straight answer.

ML inspiration had 50k on the clock and is due its B service + four tyres at £200+ a corner and like all MLs its value was dopping like a lead balloon so thought i would trade it in before im paying a dealer to take it off my hands!!!
Got 8k for it :(:(:( but its only money and your a long time dead.

It was that comment from a so called mate of mine that led me to jump for exact same vehicle ( ML 270 ) last April. Private sale £14,000 with 42,000 on the clock and service history. Wish he'd kept his mouth shut. It sounds like some one shaking stones in a biscuit tin. Never owned such a noisey car. Creaks, groans, knocks.... aghhhh

Don't be too upset - you may have lost your shirt on the ML but you've got the 280 for a song so one should pretty much cancel out the other. I paid 27k for a 1yr old E270 (basically the same) 3 years ago so to get a 2yr old E280cdi for less than around 22-23k, only a year ago would have been considered a good deal. And anyway, keep any car for only 9 months and then trade it and you're guaranteed to lose a big chunk, even in the good times.
All swings and roundabouts.... and it's only money!

My Dad died last year aged 63 and he lasted the longest out of his four brothers and his dad died when he was a baby so it doesnt look good for me plus throw in the healthy Glasgow life expectancy and well??? so as i keep saying your a long time dead and what have i to save up for, my long retirement !!!!!!!!!!!!

I liked the ML had the usual rust around the boot release but i sorted that with the warranty and i will miss the high driving position which i was greatful for a couple of months ago when i saw a pile up happening on the a80 but i saw over the cars in front and could take action well before i could have in a normal car.
But i just kept getting drawn back to the e-class and as has been said i think i got it for a good price as 220s are getting sold for the same with more miles on the clock and ive got the years warranty.
just got to wait for dvla pulling their finger out and sending me back my new v5 and retention cert in order to get it, its been nearly two weeks so heres hoping its not much longer.

Bargain Panzer. We run meets in scotland BTW, you're very welcome to show up. They are on the other forum and to view them you'd need to join.

I paid more than you about 11 months ago for an E220cdi which was a) lower spec) b) prefacelift c) higher miles.

Its a sign of the times but its a bargain you've got there.

Truthfindergeneral - Proof of the pudding that the DVLA are "wasters". (if you are who I think you are then you'll get the joke).

So how can one roll off a production line like yours jez and the next one be a bag of s.h.1.t ?

I've really no idea. Today, an ML??0 went past me (I was stood on the pavement) on a '53 plate - the engine sounded like a bag of spanners.!!!

I wonder if anyone can shed some light on this?

That shower of sh#t at the dvla just get better and better.
Took my docs to the local office in glasgow 3 weeks ago and was told i would get my replacement docs in a week, fine.
A week later i get my new tax disc and mot and a letter explaining my application to put my plate on retention has been successful???sorry?
Anyway it went on to say how i should have my new docs in four weeks. Got a call today from glasgow to say they have sent me the wrong docs as they have gave me someone elses licence number on my new docs. no appology no nothing. i explained i am trying to trade in a car and i cant do nothing until i get my new v5 but all i got was a coudnt give a flying f##k attitude at the other end of the phone with him basically saying im back at the start of the process and tough.

Called swansea tonight to see if they could shed some light on how far the process had gone where i got an utter torn faced boot with another coudnt give a flying f##k attitude telling me Glasgow have gave them nothing so far and they coudnt do anything until they Got word from Glasgow however she didnt see what i had to complain about as they have got a six weeks timescale anyway so they have three weeks left!!!!

Im obviously missing something here but am i not paying for a service?? £105 to be treated like dog sh#t on their shoe.

:mad:I am sick with rage with these muppets:mad:

So we now know there are at least two decent ones in existence !
All depends on where your sitting! I would have said the same as Jez and beefbops, great smooth luxurious car, but jumping into the ML500, the ML270 is really noisy! The W163's are v.good though, love them both.

I had an ML270cdi and did 15,000 miles in it. Great car and really, really comfortable especially on a long run. No creaks or groans.

One of the problems with comparing 'good' and 'bad' examples is that so many people want to save money on servicing and don't go to a proper MB dealer and get things fixed. My dealer has an awesome machine on which you put the car and it shakes it, rattles it and rolls it while you and an engineer sit inside the car. So much easier to find the source of a rattle or squeak than when in traffic. Yes dealers labour rates are high, but they don't charge for all the equipment they have, do they?

Been in several other ML's and none of them had squeaks or rattles. Just get it fixed.

What Car have shown there are thousands of cars that have not even had the recalls done let alone all the updates that MB go on doing even on cars up to 6 years old.

And how much is the A service? One hours labour? Big deal. And it comes with free breakdown service and a 30 year rust guarantee.
