Hi all

Just thought I'd share somehting I picked up which may explain the the widely differing views/experience of these tyres.

Apparently they are made in Germany and Thailand. The German made ones perform really well good ride, grip no early on set of sqeeling etc. The Thai made one are seeminly not so hot, sqeeling early, indifferent grip and nobbly ride and lacking the superb wet road performance of the German manufactured ones. Why this should be so is a bit of a mystery although it could be the Thai made ones have a compound more suited to the material used in the road surfaces inn that part of the world. Either way if you are going to have them check the sidewall before they are fitted to make sure it has GERMANY on it

Didn't know that AND I have just purchased a set of 4. They are at the alloy wheel refurbishment place in Melton waiting for my alloys to be shot blasted, powder coated and laquered, so I'll have to check!!!!

Hi guys,

Have just heard a bit more on this subject apparently there are some that were made in China!! Those made in China and those made in Thailand have an "E" mark but no number after it and are NOT LEGAL to use in this country. As I understand it Goodyear in the UK don't know what the exact compounds are for these far eastern versions nor how they got here!!!

If you find you have them it may be worth "Having a chat" with the outlet that supplied them.

I was relieved to note that the ones on my Porsche were made in Germany:-D :-D

I have a set on my C43 and they are an improvement in the wet over the factory Continental jobs, I think dry performance is about the same.
I also replaced the crappy Japanese Bridgstones on my Skyline GTR with GSD3's and that was a BIG improvement. I would certainly stand by the statement that the compounds used in the far east are different to the ones we need here in Europe.

One last thing which emerged last night one chap was unfortunate enough to have a prang and is now sweating because his insurer in taking an unhealthy interest in the tyres - which were of the the Chinese or Thai variety...............no prizes for guesing the outcome

I've just re-read my last post and realise that it could be misconstrued. I did not mean to imply that Bridgestone tyres were all crappy, just that the Japanese compound version were severely lacking in wet weather grip over here. I'm sure the UK spec ones are fine.
