Hi all,

New to the forum as I have just purchased my first Merc ever. My baby is a 55 reg (2005) W203 C Class 220 CDi estate with 70k on the clock. Swapped in a 2.2L Mondeo Ghia X estate that I had from new. Paid £17,000 for it in 2005 (Ford discount of £6k) and it dropped in value like a stone, lost £3k a year.:( Just thought I'd say hello as I have been looking on the site and it does seem very good for info.

Regards

Steve

Hi Steve, welcom to the forum. It would be nice to hear your views on the comparisons between the Ford and the Mercedes in due course.
You will find an abundance of subjects here which is what attracted me, all good friendly banter and good advice.

Barry.

Hi Steve
I'm a newby myself but have been made very welcome and have been given some good advice already..to follow Barrys comment about comparisons between Ford and Mercedes I recently took my 1998 E240 (W210 with rust for primer) for it's MOT passed with no problems and no advisories, chatting to the tester he told me that the previous car that he had tested that day was a Ford and it had come for it's first MOT (3 years old) and it failed on ...wait for it...UNDERBODY RUST !!!... someone told me recently that a bad Merc is better than most other cars .. I'm conviced !!

Thanks all for the warm welcome. I will do a comparison between the Merc and the Ford at some other time as I have just done it and when I went to post the reply the system had logged me out, therefore I lost it, and as I am at work I suppose I will have to get busy (Boring) but I do leave at 12 today so yipee, more time to drive around in my baby, who someone managed to scuff up the rear wheel arch on Tuesday night whilst it was parked. managed to get out all the scuff marks, but there is that very slight indentation on the wing which you can see if the light catches it at the correct angle, and of course I know it's there. It does annoy me when people do that and hav'nt got the guts to own up. Rant over, I am looking forward to taking an active part in the forums.

Regards

Steve

Wecome Steve.
Your story sounded familiar. Back in 1999 I chopped in my 2.0L Ford Granada for a 3 year old C220. I'm a big fan of Fords. Up to that point, I'd run nothing else for 12 years and they were great, but, as I'm sure you're begining to realise, not in the same league as what you have now.

Welcome Steve,

I am new here as well and have been made very welcome, I am sure you will enjoy the change from the Ford to the Mercedes, I am also a Ford man(I have a MK1 xr2 which i show)My previous was a C270(2001) which i was persuaded to change for a Jaguar X type estate sports premium, with the 2.0d (ford engine) what a dissapointment, I am a high mileage driver However the car had 2 new turbo's and a clutch(with the expensive dual mas flywheel) and to top it of was worth nothing when it came to trade in, never again, I now have a E280 cdi sport and have never looked back:D

06 E320 CDI Sport
Rather than creating a new thread I thought I'd jump in on the end here and say hello.
Recently got my first MB myself. I went for an E320cdi Sport on a 2006 06 plate.

In hindsight I should have popped in here before I made my purchase, not that I'm unhappy, quite the opposite. At the time it was a toss up between a facelifted 56 plate E220 cdi Avantgarde or the E320. The dealer said the facelift made no difference really but the statements at the time claimed 2000 improvements, anyway I'm sure you guys would have put me right. In the end I think the 18" alloys sold it to me (well and the extra power for those heavy footed moments ). I'm really happy with choice I made and smile every time I look out the window.

Regards,
Mark

btw previous car was a 51 plate Vauxhall Omega 2.6 V6 CD auto for about 7 years and prior to that a 1990 Carlton 2.0cdx for 5 years. Well whilst i'm on a nostalgia trip I might as well mention the banger I had in my teens/early 20's, prior to the carlton, a montego vanden plas. I loved that car. It was shockingly bad, the body work was terrible (Red and Grey), none of the electrics worked, the trim was all falling apart, but the 2.0 MG engine was great.

Welcome. Is an 2006 06 not facelift, if not it must be 1 of the last prefacelift cars. I always thought sport came out on facelifted cars only...

Is it I6 it V6 engine? I assume its an early V6.

Pre facelift has SBC which alone is worth going for a pre facelift
