Since 2018 MB have been manufacturing GDI (Gasoline Direct Injection) ‘petrol’ cars with a GPF, they are having to fit this system to direct injection engines to meet emission regulations mainly due to direct injection engines producing more particulate matter than port injection engines. The link below is the best description I’ve found on the net the operating principles are more or less the same as the DPF fitted to most modern diesel engines but on a much smaller scale petrol engines only produce about 10% of particulates compared to diesel. The model designation will usually show whether a car is fitted with this device as in ‘GPF’
