Both myself and 2 mechanics have both had a look at this problem and cannot see anything wrong - help please!!

AT low speeds ie turning into a car parking space, my A140 will make what i can only describe as a graunching noise (almost as if something is not meshing with something else). There is no pattern as to when this happens ie first thing in the am or end of a drive and I cannot determine if the noise is coming from the o/s or n/s.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I have a 1992 E Class 124. I had a similar problem and was told by main dealer Tech it was a dry bottom ball joint. Apparently the grease inside the rubber boot dries out causing a dreadfull groaning, crunching noise when turning (especially noticeable in the confines of an underground carpark!) Either replace or a cheap temporary fix was suggested by my Merecedes Tech. He suggested using a bradawl or sharp screwdriver type thingy to make a hole in the rubber boot and spray in WD40. I went one better and used a large syringe to inject grease in and refill the boot. Then I covered the hole with a bicycle puncture patch and rubber glue. Lasted another year! You could use something like the spray grease from Halfords. Check the rubber boot and if it feels flat and empty this could be your problem.

Alternatively, this may not be your problem and I may be talking out my ar*ehole!! Good luck.
