If you do a forum search you will see that there have been many posts on this thorny issue. Your car will be fitted with the 5 speed electronic auto gearbox and as such the official advice from Mercedes is that these boxes are 'sealed for life' and maintenance free. If you take your car to an official dealer they will refuse to touch the box unless there is a reported fault. Indeed, you can't even check the oil level in the box, as you could with the old 4 speed mechanical autos, as there is no dipstick.
The unofficial view of the majority independent MB specialists that I have spoken to is that these boxes should probably have an auto box oil and filter change at approx every 60k miles.
I had mine done at 60k. can't remember the cost, sorry, but it wasn't overly exbenzive.
MB's advice is all well and good until you consider what they would classify the normal life for an autobox  If I recall correctly I think they have it at around the 120k mile mark. I'm sorry but I don't plan on having my gearbox spontaneously fail anytime soon.
I have no idea about recommended oil change intervals on the diff though.
the oil itself is about 80 quid! bill should be 150 tops.
but worth it - my gearbox went pop at 140K (in france...) 1200+ quid bill - at an indy g'box erc man (george fraser, west london - good for gearboxes, but not as good on other things)
