Hi all,

My S reg C240's brakes seem to grind when braking, checked the pads and all are fine and the discs are fine. It feels just like the pads are worn out and seems to get worse if you brake for longer i.e going down a hill.

Any ideas

Thanks

Did you check all the pads as the inside ones can sometimes be down to the backing yet the outside ones are fine. I think that only the outer ones have the wear sensor in so again the inside could be worn out without a light being on. Alternatively what are the handbrake shoes like?

Hi, I,ve had all the pads out and cleaned them, given then a bit of abrasive which i was told to do by a mechanic and replaced them. I was told to sand them a bit to get rid of the glaze which may have been making the grinding. Since i did this the problem is a little better???????????????????

I reckon you just need a bit of Copperslip between the back of each pad and the caliper cylinder itself. I'd certainly try this first, before spending too much money.

Having said that, some pads are designed to create a grinding noise as they become worn and approach end-of-life, as an audible warning to get them changed. Do you have this type fitted perhaps? But hang on though - You say you have checked the pads don't you. Hmmmmm. It's probably not that then.

Alternatively, have you considered that it might be a wheel bearing, which under the stress caused by braking might be making a noise? - This is a guess without hearing the noise.

Good luck,

Rock
