I bought a CLK320 Convertible this week. The car is immaculate except for the steering wheel which is a bit grubby.

What would your advice be, can this be cleaned, do I need a new wheel? Over to you the experts

Thanks

Hi and welcome.
Three choices:
1. Clean. Soapy water and a lot of elbow grease. Armorall works quite well too or a decent leather cleaner (Autoglym).
2. Replace.
3. Refurbish (and customise?) by someone like Jack at Royal Steering Wheels.

Hi thanks for your help

I've tried cleaning with a leather cleaner, loads of muck came off.

Don't shout out me ... the covers you see for sale on eBay are they any good?

Refurbish could be the way to go - Royal Steering Wheels look superb

Royal would be my choice.
You can add thumb rests and a thicker rim at the same time to make it feel superb.
I have one of his on my Smart Roadster and it's lovely.

Hi here this will be right up your street I believe....
My CLK same as you even same colour, I done this via a Trimmers in Germany, All in for the DTM style option I had was £220 delivered (They sent me a Refurbed wheel) I paid a deposit of 100Euro on wheel, ftd new refurbed wheel (very easy to do) sent my tatty wheel back to them and my 100 Euro deposit was refunded- No issues, my wheel is Immaculate and exceeded my expectations (you just use your old centre pad onto new wheel... You can also take the option of sending your own wheel the link explains the various options on everthing I would use same again, comms was via Whats app also which made it instant and super easy process The basic recover is as above about £120 my option was at the upper end with top/bottom thumb rests and sculpted, it feels like a new motor :) Eveyone comments when they see it, really does set the car off. Last year, Think off memory I ordered on a Thursday new wheel came following Mon was DHL, sent old wheel back with supplied return lable via carrier and my deposit was repaid few days later on its return to germany and inspcted as good to refurb (i.s not damaged other than worn covering of course) *Highly Recommended*

Also I find the steering wheel controls, menu, phone, volume up down just seem to get sticky by themselfs I am on my second set and never eat, drink in the car so I don't know what causes it. I bought a Benz leather cleaner at dealer to clean steering rim, always surprises how much muck it lifts.

Same here, it just goes to show how much muck you have on your hands. I carry a pack of mule-purpose cleaners with me, I find them very good.
