Guess what - my 190 back diff whines !! and my tapits a noisy !

I know it's a common problem - but I've never managed to find out what it is that's causing the diff noise - and more importantly the best solution. I've tried two second hand diffs and they have both been as bad - and I can't seem to find anywhere that refurbishes the diffs. I do know a knew one is around £900 and as the care is a 1994 model that's a bit much to spend.

Also I'm after some information on changing the tapits - I know there are hydraulic and I know they can be a pain to change (especially someone of my limited ability) but that's the sum of my knowledge.

I'd appreciate any advice on both these problems.

Thanks ...

Still think it's the Diff

Thanks for your quick response - Still think it's the Diff - the "experts" told me so and there was a different noise with each new diff - plus the fact if my boot is full the noise is particularly dampened.

So I am pretty sure it is the diff ? but is there another way to find out ? (apart from taking it to a main dealer). And if it is defiantly the diff what is it that is actually knackered ? the diff gears ? or a bearing somewhere ? and what?s the best course of action to get it fixed ? without buying a new one.

If you are stuck there is a company in Cumbria who will overhaul the diff. They are called Cumbria Transmissions and are based in Ulverston
