I have managed to close the boot lid of my 1988 sl trapping the leather of a wind deflector storage bag in the lock mechanism. I now cannot open the boot at all. There is the initial pressure in the push barrel/lock when I press to open, but this becomes "dull" during travel instead of the usual "sharp" feeling, the barrel then releases to its original position but without any pressure unless I press down on the lid and it "clunks" out, hence my conclusion of the fouled mechanism/lock. Can anyone please help? Im dreading the thought of drastic measures to bodywork:cry:

Nick......desparate,cursing and kicking myself Nick:mad:

if you get push down hard on the lid & push the button in & pull the lid up with some force is the best bet

Hi Roofless. I have tried that but it still wont shift. I think the leather has become well and truly jammed in. Thanks though, any advice is appreciated.Im worried because a friend of mine had a similar experince last year with his Bentley and had to drill a hole behind the number plate to gain access.....can you imagine that ????!!!!

Cheers

So sorry to hear that, I would leave it till morning to see if it crushes the leather a touch,,if not can you spray some water in through the gap where the leather is stuck, this will soften it, use one of the bathroom type spay bottles. when it is wet, push down on the rear of the boot to squash it more and it should release
