I've found an hair line crack in the near side rear alloy today. tyre wouldn't keep it's pressure I was hoping it was the usual problem a screw but no it's a crack. So I'm on the lookout for a replacement, J9 x 18" ET39 AMG style IV (I think). I've borrowed a wheel from MB tech so I can use the car. Anyone have anything? I've seen a set on ebay which I've put on watching, 4 wheels & tyres at the moment there on 99p.

Where is the crack?? If it is on the very edge on the inside (the most common) it can be repaired. Perhaps post up a picture. If you drew a line from the centre of the wheel to the outside, just on the outer bit...

it is on the edge of the inside rim about 1" long. I had consider having it welded but then there's always a chance that the fracture can carry on after. I'm not 100% happy about a repair on this type of car.

That's absolutely fair comment. It depends entirely on how you feel about it. I have seen some repairs that have lasted "forever" with no issues, and some that, as you say, reappear in the same area. The main thing is, it is not unsafe to do, provided that you keep an eye on it afterwards. Spit & Polish are now doing this repair, after years of declining it...

this same repair was carried out on my nearside front, i only found out when i took it for an MOT and they told me the wheel was going flat. They passed it as it wasnt at an unsafe level but when they showed me the wheel, and the weld that had split, i just bit the bullet and bought a new set of wheels
