Just wondered whether anyone knows why a car (w124) praised for its smooth ride, solid build quality etc etc should be fitted with a handbrake release that sounds like gunfire and scares passengers? I assume the release isn't supposed to be gas filled in some way to slowly release the cable when the lever is pulled (although all of my 124's have made same noise so prob not)? It just seems an odd bit of design for Merc (and makes hillstarts in a manual 'box virtually impossible) (having said that 124 manual 'boxes are impossible anyway...). '123's lever system was far better...
PS - any further thoughts on my bouncing revs in engine forum??
Thanks
