What a welcome upon leaving work tonight.  My bonnet star's gone, but thankfully there's no paint damage.
What to do now?
Anyone know whether this is a dealer only part - how much? - or can I get in anywhere else?
I'm thinking that whilst I'm having to park in London streets, is it possible to fit the flat badge (off the sports models).  Will it just fit in the same hole, or is it totally different?
I'll still buy a new star, so I can swop it over for special occasions!
Incidentally, its a late W124 with be badge fitted directly in the  bonnet top, not the chrome grill.
Can anyone help?

Make sure you get the proper Merc badge, because the fake ones, arn't tested in crashes, and is not pedistion tested. :).

There was a post on here a few days ago, i think White 190 started it. Basically you can get a retractable star for the bonnet...clever or what!

I bought a spare bonnet star on E-Bay last week very cheaply.....just in-case this sort of thing happens.

Yeah, they're not expensive from the stealerships.  The item I got is MB merchandise and was a bargain (inc. delivery).

Thanks for the replys lads, I thought I was looking at a £100 bill, so I suppose it's not too bad.
I've done a little research, and found that the auto retracting stars can only be fitted into the chrome grilles, not into the bonnet top (later models).
I understand that a slot is cut into the grille - either side of the hole and a "mini letter box" inserted and fixed, containing the pop-up star.  A vacuum pipe is then run to and plumbed into the central locking system.
This has got to be the ultimate pose!!!  Unlock the car.....up pops the star,   lock it, it disappears...
What a toy!!!      Must have one!....oh no, I've the wrong type of grill.
Anyone seen one of these  -  I've not, but I'll start looking.

Dave B,  What is E-Bay?  is it an internet site?  Can't find it!    Thanks

Dear administrator,
I got a "timed out" message when I finished my reply and tried to post it.
When I checked later, I'd got five copies posted!!!
I don't want everyone to think I'm thick!!!
Not my fault.....honest
Doug
