Is the factory tour only open to customers who purchase from brand new?

Or can anyone book the tour, by driving out there in your own Merc?

Thanks, Keith.

the museum in Stutgart is open to visitors. whether you can have a nosey round the factory as well i dont know. Ring MB UK up and ask them. Or go to the main MB website and email MB. worse they can say is no.

driving there aslo mean you could do the porsche museum 2. if you interested that is.

I was going to do the personal collection for the new slinky mobile but it isnt much cop from Bremen. And drving thru belgium on the way back in November wont be good weather.

I did the tour years ago when I went along with my parents to pick up their car from the factory. On the return trip, the downside is that we had to keep ourselves on the slow lane driving at snail pace, but the plus side of course is that we are clocking up the miles and the car soon became 'run in'.

Merc Factory Tour Bookings

Hi,
Yes, you can book the factory tour at any time. You need at least two
weeks notice, no Merc is required! Book it a a month before you go to the area and you should be fine. They do this tour so often it costs them close to nothing to run it for new buyers. They may even recommend the hotels that they have the discount deals with. There's plenty in the area. Novotel is probably closest, and within walking range of shops/restaurants.

I work regularly at my company's base in the area and the tour is popular. The Merc factory dominates the town with parts fed in by train at one end and cars out the other.

There's also lots to do around the area if you fancy making a long weekend out of it. It's right on the edge of the black forest and the scenery is excellent. Tubingen, Frieberg and Triberg are all worth a visit. The Porsche museum is in the area too, Stuttgart I think.

Bye!
John

Please be aware there are three MB factories in Germany which do these tours - Bremen, Stuttgart and Rastadt. So, if you want to see a particular model on the production line, first check with a local MB dealer to find out in which of the three it is currently being built.

Most of the right-hand-drive cars for the UK market are built in East London, South Africa, so you won't see many RHD cars on the production lines in Germany.

However, if you are visiting a factory in Germany to take delivery of your RHD car, it will either have been specially built there or delivered there from South Africa for you to collect.

All the tours are a really great experience. I've been on the Bremen and Stuttgart tours - the Stuttgart tour has the museum as well, so I would suggest it is the best tour for first-time visitors.

this link should help those who are wondering. it tells you which models are built where.

the ML and C class saloon are built elsewhere and shipped in for you.

you can order a brouchure too. gives you a bit more idea even if you are not buying a new one. Have ordered an SLK myself but have decided not to go on the personnal pick up as it isnt built in stutgart.

Mercedes are building a hotel/musuem at Brooklands. If I pass by on my way back from McLaren on the 17th sept I will try and find out more about when it opens. Rumour in January was, that those ordering the SLR would be flown in and taken out in the test car for a day or so then taken to the technology centre to see final assembly. As they have also released other colours for the SLR I would assume those buying one may wish to see it before being built so I would expect a few tester cars to be around.

I have done the Factory collection it was awful Mercedes-Benz sure can not get this right and if anyone is going do not expect to be collected from the airport this will not happen we waited 1 1/2 hours for our car which never arrived had to arrange transport to the hotel myself lots of other problems MB Milton Keynes have been hopeless basicly they just do not care so I would say to anyone DO NOT use the factory collection it is not worth the money.

Anyone who has also experienced problems please do let me know, I have been informed that there are many customers who are not happy with the personal collection program

Did the museum last month - would highly recommend it. Porsche are building a new museum as the existing one is just a room with some cars in it. Due to open next year, I believe, and they say it will be on a par with the MB museum

If you really want a good experience, try flying to Frankfurt and picking up a 911 from Avis (on special offer at 200 euro per day) and driving around the black forest. We did tat and I'm still smiling about it. Try the Schausinland hill climb track round there - fantastic!
