have I got the wrong ones?

I've had a 1995 w124 coupe for about a year now, and am wondering whether I should change the wheels, which are 19" AMG-style alloys. I was told shortly after I bought it that they are too big, and you can see a little rubber on the wheel arches where they have rubbed (the car is also lowered).

Are they really too big? Are the 19 inchers only for the S-class? Anyone want to swap for 18 inch AMGs? They are in pretty good nick, on brand new tyres.

Any advice, suggestions welcome.
