Hey there we just brought a 2019 e class 220d and the engine management light come on we took it to Mercedes in Dartford (uk) they sent us a video telling us that the egr actuator had melted and that the wires too had some damage

The car is under warranty as it is two years old they failed to contact us all day except the video we attended the garage and waited for over an hour they then said the car was unsafe to drive and the part will be in Monday that was it we left

After that my friend asked if we got a courtesy car I said no he ask why not I rang Mercedes back no reply so I went back waited another hour to be told no we can not get one or a hire car

Is this correct? Is there anything we can do ?as o believe this repair may take longer then they say or are we entitled to any money off a hire car or possibly a future service as one is due now for £580 plus £128 for brake fluid change

I found the service at Mercedes Dartford to be very very bad

Thanks

the EGR is part of the emissions system and its not unheard of for them to play up, however I expect its other emission related updates the car needs and possibly new components. Check your reg on the merc website for recalls and see if outstanding work was needed

dealer's are often incredibly busy, so they may have run out of cars to offer, but its does seem a little off they can help out better. If you think the dealer is the lease it bodge it type go to one that a little slower reaching the new way to treat premium brand car buyers

When I booked my last service with my local Mercedes dealer the waiting time was 4 weeks, they are busy.

In my experience if they have a spare loan car they will loan you one.

Have a look at Mercedes contract servicing, it could save you money, I paid on an offer £1100 for 3 yearly services on my E350CDI. The trick is to have 2 B services & one A service, which I have & its due an auto box oil change as well. If your service this year is an A pay for it then start on a B service next year.

My car started throwing up EGR codes, I bought an OBD scanner to check codes, you should to.

The EGR valve would have cost £250+, but after lots of reading yesterday, the advice was to disable\delete the EGR by way of an engine remap.

I wouldn't have considered a remap, but for less than the cost of an EGR plus fitting, I now have more power, no EGR errors and no possible future issues caused by the exhaust gases being pumped back in to the engine. The car drives better than it ever has.

Apparently the remap is undetectable so won't affect warranty, should save you money, now and in the future, and you should be able to get one done same day.

Hope ur good to go. Sometimes re maps can bite u depending on where u do it. I am a great believer in keeping std but have to say, I will carry out my egr and adblue sensible maintainenance but if Benz try to bite me in the wallet with unreliable suspect kit I will delete it, if I can and get past mot. I have no wish to flaunt sensible regulation but nor do I have any interest in becoming a dealer victim because of regulation.. good luck the simple, but for dealer unpalatable solution is to make the kit properly (they don't) and price it based on volume sales and not victim sales. Thus most will adhere to regulation because costs are near or less than delete.
I a bit of a broken record on such subjects, sorry, but nox sensors wud be a grand but not only example or expensive and seriously suspect kit on benz, and maybe others. All failures of this under 10yrr should be replaced by law foc they will soon become very (Benz) reliable within a yr....
