My '93 190e 2.6 recently rolled over 155k miles. As seems to be common place with the 2.6, the head gasket has begun to leak. The coolant has become brown and lumpy and oil can also be seen leaking from the gasket.
I was wondering how difficult a job it would be for me to replace this gasket myself. I have worked on many American cars but never on anything foreign or with fuel injection. I don't mind a long tedious job but am unsure if special tools and / or skills are required.
I checked with a few local mechanics and they all want $1,300+ for the repair. I recently lost my job so I am trying to save all the money I can -- this problem couldn't have come at a worse time (murphy's law I guess).
I going to try and buy an aftermarket repair manual (i.e., Clinton, Haynes) to see if they address the topic. I couldn't find any specifics on this repair on the MB site or Internet. In the meantime, any advice from the experts would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers!
