The chain tensioner is automatic once the oil pressure builds up.

It is worth getting the head skimmed before re fitting, as this will save possible future problems.

Where in the UK are you

I've only read of one HG failure on this engine. Seems very rare. Mine is 197,000 miles and solid as a rock.

Head Gasket

Hi Malcolm
When I come to remove cam sprocket will I have to do anything to the tensioner I know you said it was fed by the oil presure, I do not want the chain to once removed and the tensioner to fully adjust out then not be able to retract it, on the jags you could put a nut on the cam wheel an hold it in the tensioned position before removing the bolts. Any suggestions appreciated. I will be starting it at about 10 ish so wont be able to check for replies but please feel free to call me and I will call you back
Regards
