hello all.
the daily driver has been sorted and now it's time to sort my other jalopy. does anyone out there know of a good place to get a headgasket set or is this a main dealer only part.
i haven't bought anything like this before, is there anything i will have to get seperately???
i'm a little wet behind the ears when it come to this stuff so any words of wisdom will be gratefully accepted.

If you are going to change the head then I would advise getting a gasket from the main dealer. Other items you will need are (in no particular order):-

Exhaust manifold studs and nuts ( If you have the head off replace these as in situ they are a pig to change)
Inlet manifold gasket.
Valve stem oil seals.
Lapping paste (course and fine) Do the valves while the head is off.
Rocker cover gasket
Valve spring compressor
Torque Wrench
A series of long extension bars for the manifold to downpipe exhaust join.
13mm 6 sided socket for exhaust. Multi point sockets will round off your nuts (sorry Hana:mrgreen:)
Star bit for the head bolts
A set of new jubilee clips as they either get lost or broken when you take them off.
Sticky tape and a pen to mark where the electrics and pneumatics go
Most important. Someone to work with, safety and company.
A Good bottle of wine / whiskey / beer whatever as you will feel like a good drink at some stage. usually when re fitting the exhaust down pipe.

Good morning Ian, I note your remark that the 6 sided sockets work better than the multi spline, would you say this goes for all nuts, or only those on the exhaust. Nice to know as you are working on them all day.

Malcolm, given the chance I would use 6 sided tools all the time. I have a set of 6 sided sockets but can I find ring spanners to match. No way. That is unless peeps here know different. With a 6 sided tool you get the flat sitting against a flat. With multi splined you always have an overlap and never a solid contact.
