Bonsoir...

Just a quickie, whilst fiddling with the level adjust switch the other day i noticed that absolutely nothing happens when the switch is adjusted. I had a look at the headlamps and i cant see any wires / tubes that look like they would do the job.

Can anyone let me know of they should be electric or air operated like the door locks.

Many thanks.

Headlamp Level Adjust..

Hiya Matt,
:)
I'm pretty sure the headlamp level adjust is run off the vacuum line for all MB's.

As I recall on my previous 190E it didn't seem to do much either but my current 'C' is very noticable as you wind the dial from 0 to 3. I just remembered that my old 190E had hydraulic self-levelling rear suspension so that might be why the dial didn't do much in my case.

Headlamp Level Adjust..

If the adjuster is a large round dial with an inset knob, similar in size to the headlamp switch (about 3cm), located on the lower dash, then it is cable operated. In this case, what usually happens is that the cable gets stiffer with age and then a bit of the plastic mechanism of the knob snaps off under stress.

Headlamp Level Adjust..

My 190e 1990 has vertical thumbwheel.
This runs off the vacuum systaem and ends up at cream colour pipes on lower edge of headlamps.
Easy to see from above the headlamp.
One of my pipes broke, other side still adjusted, so must be independant.
Sealed round the pipe with epoxy putty from Halfords.
Job done.
