I own a 2000 E200 and on Monday night the offside dipped beam light bulb failed in the carpark as I left work. The next morning when I started the car to go to the garage for a replacement the nearside bulb also failed. Has anyone had a similar experience of the bulbs failing so close together? The mechanic thought it was unusual.

Cheers,

John.

It really is just one of those strange things, it has happened to me,one bulb and others start going, then no more for years.
There is nothing on the car to cause this other than the viabration of closing the bonnet after fitting one bulb.

John,

I agree it is unusual but not unknown. How old are the bulbs? At this time of year it is not unusual to start the car with the dip beam on. The voltage surge will shorten the bulb life and premature failure will occur.

Two things. I had woeful electrical problems.

For some reason my car eats headlamp bulb holders, they melt. The rear light bulb holders were also faulty, they have all bene replaced. If the bulb holders are faulty you get some shorting and arcing and it blows the bulbs quickly. When you are changing them have a good look.....and stick with the 55W, dont be tempted to higher wattages.
