The headlights main beam does not come on when the light switch is pushed forward. It works on flash, but not on permanent. Does anyone know which fuse controls this and where it is or is there another fix if not this?

Pretty sure there is no fuse and it's controlled by the SAM. But as it works on flash that would be the wrong route anyway.
1st I would be looking at the stalk.

Fount this on MB Club.co.uk and it has solved the problem. Now works.

Have you tried with the light switch in the "Headlamp" position and not "Auto"?

If it has the intelligent lighting system, and a UK spec car would have (though not I'm sure in your country), then pushing the control stalk to it's forward position would only activate this and not necessarily apply the main beam as certain circumstances have to be met before it will come on.

To avoid this, or basically remove it from the equation, turn the switch one position to the right, to the head and side lamp symbol. Then try moving the stalk forwards and hopefully your main beam will work.

That was my initial thought as I read the first post but, from your profile, it looks as though you have 2009 and 2011 cars and I wondered whether either would have Intelligent Lighting?

You just have a switch with side lights, Auto or Head lights. No off position. You would still expect main beam to work in auto, but no.

Yours is as my ML.
But yes! Main beam does work in auto .... it just needs to be dark & on a road that you might need main beam.

Strangely enough it was dark and on the road.
