The drivers side headlight (dipped) was out on the wife's ML, and I thought I just lob a new bulb in there and jobs a good un.

Took the old bulb out and it is actually OK although it had managed to work ithself loose and has melted some of the plastic from the back of the headlight (crap design obviously, never had a bulb jump out before). Changed the old bulb anyway, and the light still doesn't work. What is even more strange is that when I put full beam on, the (dipped) light seems to come on although the full beam light bulb doesn't come on.

Any ideas ??

Have the contacts in the holder opened up Mark or the wire is no longer connected to the socket, a volt meter would tell you all

I'll have a look.

You used to have an ML a while ago. Did you ever see the bulb holder jump out of the spring clip arrangement ??

No I have not had an ML but the holders on many cars do give problems where the connection from the wire does not make contact to the bulb holder, this also applies to indicator lamps

Many appologies for offending you with that..

I have had the bulb out again and cleaned the contacts in the holder. The were a bit loose, so I tried my best to make it a more snug fit and hey presto.

Many thanks for the help.
