Hello there I don’t know if this is really the correct thread to post this in but I own a 2017 Mercedes Benz C350e Amg Line Premium (Not Plus) and I have always wondered how to turn on the auto mainbeams because I set it on auto yet it doesn’t show any indication that auto mainbeams are on

Can you maybe please tell me how I turn on this feature if possible

The “Auto” on the headlamp switch will just turn the headlights on when ambient light levels fall below the minimum required for lights to be used- the lights will come on automatically.

For High Beam Assist or Intelligent Lighting System, push the indicator stalk forwards (like putting main beam on in any other car).

Me -2019 GLC 350 coupe AMG line. Mrs- 1.2 vauxhall Corsa 2021 ,orange with a black roof. .
You should have 2 green lights on the dash ,one for drl and one for headlights. You get a blue light when high beams are switched on

Does you car have the auto high beam option? It wasn’t a standard option even with Premium Plus

people need to better understand the dark bits on the top centre of the windscreen within the arc of the wiper blade area

RLS - is the UK common naming convention for the rain light sensor - these started turning up in 2000 on Peugeot's became more and more popular - till most high end / high spec cars had these from 2006 - Its a simple 20 quid sensor that looks at light levels and light diffraction to determine if its getting dark and or there is a given amount of rain landing of the windscreen.

And thus this can control auto lights on, and auto windscreen wipers. But car manufacturer like to pretend its some super expensive option and then ensure its not retrofit-able by making the control unit a lower spec and then leave out the area on the screen to clip the sensor too

I don't know for sure, my BM didn't get a camera. So I suspect it was a development of the sensor that could bring active high beam assist. But these days lots of cars get cameras and I guess these can probably do the maths more accurately

Oddly before high beam assist, high end cars started doing infra red cameras to bring an image on screen that could see further up the road as a pretend safety aid. Once cameras became established all sort of extra started to come in like low speed emergency braking, pedestrian recognition and attempted braking, lane assist and these days speed limit sign recognition, which then morphed into speed limit restricted speed

this one is more than most cars get - nice spelling they posted on the internet here

But some auto lights seem better/cleverer than others. I've been behind cars when their lights are on & off due to shade from trees after a short time while my ML's lights have stayed off.

I think that high beam assist only works on some cars if the main light switch is set to auto.
The symbol usually remains grey in colour until such time as the main lights are on and the main control stalk is pushed forward for full/high beam.
Really it should be called Dipped Beam Assist as that's what it's really doing.

Does it answer the question? Seems like you are questioning your purchase?

So post some pics of the damaged car.....

well we can see the screen - so I'd suggest it highly likley its got high beam assist, plus quite a few other ADAS bits - not that they helped

Seems like you got an accident danaged car.
I would guess some of those headlamps will be hideously expensive and may well be on back order.

Here's the symbol I get with the stick pushed forward and the lights on auto.
The A next to the speedo needle.

Put the VIN in https://www.lastvin.com/ and it should tell you what the car has.
Seems like i dont see anything specifically anything with Auto Main Beam or something in the lines of that when i put my vin in there so it seems that my car doesn't have it which would be a pain as i have to consistently flick the main beam on and off but thank you either way.

Thank you for your help and others.
