headlight wiper prob

1987 W107 300sl auto. recently purchased. Can anyone help. The washer pump to the headlights was disconnected along with the heated washer jets to the windscreen. I have replaced the heated jets and they seem ok. The headlight washer pump has been renewed but When the lights are switched on the headlight washer pump runs continually and the headlights get a good soaking but the wipers dont move. Someone mentioned a relay but what and where is it. Any Ideas.
