anyone care to suggest a way to set headlight adjustment on motors that dont rely on electronics to do it.

for reasons i dont follow lovelies a class wont pass the french ct in the headlights in the same position (adjustment )as has been the case for at least the last 10 yr !! i may have disturbed both when fitting brighter bulbs ,but cant see how ?.

for now. the issue is low beam out of limits ? i placed my clk 600mm from the garage door on flat level concrete pad (its never failed either ) and used a crayon to mark low /high and cut off point. then i put lovelies motor in exact same position and adjusted to same levels . they were, compared to clk ,low and main beam was a little different as well tho this is not an issue according to french ct doc . needless to say benz made this a small drama as one of the 2 adjusters cant be adjusted without the wheel arch liner coming out ! the earlier 168 had a removable panel in the arch liner ,but some f bean counter decided that was far too sensible and mine dont have it . whilst i have plenty of workshop kit ,i dont have a beam setter ,and till today ,never a use for one .

Make sure the bulbs are seated properly. It's very easy to slightly misalign the bulbs making them sit slightly cock eyed.

Set the beams by driving the car upt the thing you're using to check the beams. Mark the centre point if the headlight. Pull it back 10 ft and check the cut off. It should be 1-2% lower than the mark previously made and not centred any further left than the mark made earlier.
So 1% would be a drop of 1/100th of 10 feet = 1/100x120 so 1.2 ". To be sure set them 2" below.

It’s also possible to put the bulb in upside down... ask me how I know...

That really messes the beam pattern...
