I too seem to be underpowered in the light department. The lights do seem dim compared to other vehicles that I drive. I can cope if there aren't other cars on the road, but have great difficulty when oncoming vehicles have superior lights.

I think you can get brighter bulbs. The bulbs come with warnings about upgrading your wiring to handle the extra current. Has anyone just put in the bulbs?

I have wondered if the voltage was low on the car as the dashboard lights appear dim as well. I get 12.6V on the battery with the engine off.

My 190e has rather poor standard lighting so I bought a set of 80/100w
which say "Not for use in Europe"! But what the hell, when the car was tested I put the 55/60w bulbs back in! :D

i tried 100W in my CL - it didnt like it - theres an over current protection system i think - so the 100w ones ran at 55ish watts - which caused then to last about 3 days. stick to 55w PIAAs

It?s an over voltage protection system

I am currently running 100w cool blue bulbs without any problems for the last 2 years. I don?t see why the ovp relay or fuse should be affected, as the ovp is there to stop over voltage going to the engine management system not to the headlights So what you are trying to say you cannot put any accessorises On your car as it will draw to much currant. And blow the ovp system. Better buy a packet of pampers for your mouth [Enough said]

Am I the only one driving around with 60W lights? It's no wonder I can't see anything!

Has anybody beefed up their fog lights? You can get some fancy 85W bulbs in there.

Minor point guys,
I believe 100w is illegal in the UK - been a while, I used to use them on my escort as a lad. Can't see how they'd spot you though.
I guess this is why merc switched to twin lights with spots on the newer ones. The E is pretty good. On country lanes in the C , I used to flick the front fogs on which helped.

Yes, the 100W bulbs are illegal.

I have just fitted some PIAA bulbs, the difference is like night and day. They are E approved as well.
