Well that's my guess anyway, other thoughts welcome.

Mrs Me parked opposite the train station, removed carry bags from the estate, locked by the fob and witnessed the mirrors fold.
On return the mirrors had unfolded, door unlocked, key into ignition and alarm goes off.

2009 2.1 E class, far from the most expensive mo mo, possible £4k+,
aside from not nicking anything that wasn't inside anyway, any other strategies would be interesting.

This terrifies me, particularly after having my e class stolen during a burglary back in April.

I use a faraday pouch now but even they are not foolproof, as they seem to wear out very quickly. I’m on my third one since April after noticing that they are no longer blocking the signal. Bad enough having to carry a pocket full of keys, let alone another wallet.

If you’d not have said that the alarm went off when the key was put into the ignition, I would have probably put it down fault / accident but I It does look like Mrs you’s (Mrs yours?) car was targeted.

A little more has transpired.
Mrs Me said when she returned the door was a little open, yesterday she complained that it doesn't always lock 1st time and she has to keep open /closing it.
My comment that she expecting a different outcome when she is doing the same thing didn't go too well.

Anyways I've just carried out an experiment.
I closed the door so it wasn't locked,
opened and closed the tailgate as she had,
then locked the car.
The mirrors folded, the car was locked all but for the drivers door.

So opening the drivers door, no alarm. Sat waving my hands, no alarm. Turn ignition on, no alarm.

Because the alarm isn't armed in that scenario it does seem as thought he car was fully locked, and armed.
Then somebody has opened the drivers door, I assume the alarm went off and re armed after for her return.

The mystery is why a cloning didn't unlock the car and also disarm the alarm.
