Heated seat

problem with the drivers seat since day one, press the heated seat swith and all three lights light up and after about 10 seconds they go out, there is no heat at all to the bottom cushion or the back pad, i have been told it's either faulty pads or a broken wire? any thoughts, £150.00+ for a second hand seat or £150.00 to have a new pad fitted, if it's just a broken wire i am more than capable of soldering so can do that my self, would be a shame to have to buy a new seat as mines in very good condition.

any ideas where to look on the seat pad for the broken wire? is there a usual place?

It will be a fine filament wire within the heat pad itself. Not possible to solder I would expect as even if you could join, I believe the control module assesses voltage (drop) resistance and temperature (increase) when switched on to determine if there is a fault.

A lot of the heat pads on the slightly more modern Mercs are physically bonded to the seat cover, so it would possibly be a new seat cover ordered from Merc if you were looking to go genuine.

i'm pretty much all spent out now on this car, was hoping it would be an easy repair so i think i might just have to put up with being cold, £950 to pay out on it tomorrow

A second hand seat could leave you in exactly the same position as you are now

yes have already been there with a Premier..... parts supplier and struggled to get my money back.
