Heated seats in ML 270CDI 02

Can you please advise if the base as well as the back of the seat should heat up??? It appears only the back heats up on both on mine. Anu=y help would be really appreciated.

The base should heat up also.

As Nat Pan, maybe some wires off under the seats,only with a volt meter can you check whats going on.
